1. Go to a free museum of art

One of the best free things to do in Minneapolis is to visit a free museum. The Minneapolis Institute of Arts always has free admission and that's certainly great! The museum has a permanent collection that includes a lot of famous works. Furthermore, the collection is really large, consisting of over 90,000 artworks spanning about 20,000 years of history. Also, art on display here is very diverse. In short, you will not get bored easily at this museum as there is so much to see!

2. Go to the lake

There are many lakes in Minneapolis and you should definitely go there if you are in the city. Since there are 13 lakes in total, there are many options. However, Bde Maka Ska is the largest and definitely worth to visit! They all make for a great place to relax, go for a swim or just walk-by.

3. See a beautiful cathedral

Visit the Cathedral of Saint Paul for one of the most beautiful cathedrals in the United States. It is located on top of a hill and was built there in 1915. Also, you can take a tour of the cathedral completely for free! Tours are hosted Tuesdays through Fridays just after noon. Furthermore, more information can be found on this page!

4. Stroll along beautiful sculptures

The Minneapolis Sculpture Garden is open to the public every day from 6AM to midnight. In this garden you can find 40 permanent sculptures, and several sculptures that are there on a temporary-basis. Therefore, it is a lovely way to spend your time while you are in Minneapolis. The garden in operated by the Walker Art Center and this is one of the best free things to do in Minneapolis!

5. Walk through the park

Another one of the free things to do in Minneapolis is to walk through the park. Minnehaha Park is a great park to go to relax or walk through. Also, you can see one of the waterfalls here, which looks beautiful. Furthermore, there are many historic sites in the park that are preserved, such as the Minnehaha Princess Railway Station and the John H. Stevens House. Thus, besides beautiful nature, there is a lot to see here!

6. Go to the Como Zoo and Conservatory

At the Como Zoo and Conservatory you can find a zoo with lots of animals, a beautiful indoor garden (conservatory), an amusement park, Lake Como, and much more. Therefore, you can do a lot here! 7. Discover modern art

For a large collection of modern art, go to the Weisman Art Museum located at the University of Minnesota. The collection has a lot of American modernism paintings, Native American pottery, and much more! Also, there is no admission fee to the museum!

8. See a variety of trees

At the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum you can see the largest and most varied collection of trees in Minnesota. Therefore, it's really interesting if you love trees. Furthermore, the arboretum is managed by the University of Minnesota and has a history of about 100 years. Therefore, it is truly a great place to go while you are in the city. 9. Go to a free jazz festival

During the Twin Cities Jazz Fest you can see lots of jazz performances once every year. More than 100 musicians perform at the festival and are really good! Moreover, many famous jazz musicians have performed at the festival! On this page you can get more information about the event.

10. Tour the Minnesota State Capitol

The Minnesota State Capitol is where the government of Minnesota is located. It is a beautiful building with an interesting history and you can do a tour for free. Furthermore, during the tour you will learn more about the State Capitol. Also, for an overview of the schedule, check out this page!
