7 of the Best Restaurants in Edinburgh

By Dymphe / January 2, 2023

You can find 7 of the best restaurants in Edinburgh in the UK in this article. Furthermore, I'll also show you the menus and addresses of some of the places.

Edinburgh is one of the best cities in the United Kingdom, and the restaurants definitely play a part in this.

Table of Contents

  • 1. Pataka
  • 2. Makars Gourmet Mash Bar
  • 3. Ondine
  • 4. Civerinos Slice
  • 5. Harajuku Kitchen
  • 6. The Honours Brasserie
  • 7. Mother India’s Cafe Edinburgh

1. Pataka

Pataka is one of the best restaurants in Edinburgh. The restaurant serves delicious Indian and Bengali food.

The menu of Pataka is amazing. There are many great meals on it. If you're vegetarian, there are also several options for you.

Some very delicious dishes at this restaurant are Sabzi Chilli Dall and Ginger Saag Dal. Also, you should definitely try Chat Pottie. That's a dish with chickpeas, lentils, and many other delicious ingredients.

You can also choose one of the special dishes. If you do that, you'll have a starter, a main, and a dessert. In that case, you can choose a vegetarian dinner for two or a non-vegetarian dinner for two.

Furthermore, the place looks very special from the inside too. The design of the restaurant is stunning and it's an amazing place to spend your evening.

A fun fact is that Ian Rankin regularly visits this restaurant! He is a famous Scottish crime writer and he lives in Edinburgh. He wrote many books, but the most famous one is Inspector Rebus.

Moreover, Pataka even had a feature in two novels by Ian Rankin! The books are Standing in Another Man's Grave and Set In Darkness. This makes the restaurant even more unique.

Address: 190 Causewayside, Edinburgh EH9 1PN, United Kingdom

2. Makars Gourmet Mash Bar

Makars Gourmet Mash Bar is a place where you can have very good comfort food. But it's not like any other restaurant that serves comfort food. This place focuses on healthy dishes!

The owner traveled for years and noticed that there were always nonsensical ingredients in dishes. Also, the owner didn't understand why traditional meals from Scottish cuisine weren't famous in the rest of the world.

Thus, he started Makars Gourmet Mash Bar. A place where there are no deep fat fryers. At this restaurant, you can have healthy food. The dishes are like the food the grandmother of the owner cooked!

Furthermore, the restaurant got the inspiration for the food from the industry of Craft Beer in Scotland. At Makars Gourmet Mash Bar, there's a careful process for selecting the ingredients. All ingredients are from a local source.

Since the food is healthy and delicious, this is one of the best restaurants in Edinburgh. There are also vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options at Makars Gourmet Mash Bar! For example, the vegetarian haggis is great! This is a meal both people who eat meat and people who don't eat meat will love!

Menu: Find the menu on the website of Makars Gourmet Mash Bar!

Address: 9 & 12 Bank St, Edinburgh EH1 2LN, United Kingdom

If you are in the mood for seafood, you should definitely visit Ondine! This restaurant serves seafood dishes of high quality.

The starters and mains here are amazing, so you should definitely have a look at the menu. Furthermore, there are also delicious desserts. For example, there's a dessert with chocolate sorbet ice cream, and raspberries.

The restaurant looks amazing from the inside too. There is a large bar in the center of the place. This looks great and it's very nice to sit there. The other seatings are beautiful as well. Furthermore, the atmosphere of the restaurant is very good.

For those who love seafood, this is one of the best restaurants in Edinburgh to go to!

The restaurant uses Scottish local ingredients and the place uses French cuisine techniques.
