1. Museo del Romanticismo

One of the best museum in Madrid is the Museo del Romanticismo. This is a museum dedicated to the Romanticism period. Moreover, there are many paintings which look beautiful. But that's not what the museum is about. The purpose of the museum is to show how daily life was like for the upper-class of society during the period of Romanticism. Furthermore, the museum is housed in a classical mansion completely with furniture, sculptures, drawings, and many other items from that period.

2. Museo Nacional del Prado

The Museo Nacional del Prado is one of the best art museums of the world and it is the national art museum of Spain. Furthermore, it is one of the largest and most visited museums in Spain. That's why going here is also one of the best activities in Madrid.

There are so many great European paintings that range from the 12th till the 20th century. Furthermore, there is an incredible amount of Spanish art, that includes some of the best artworks in existence. The museum focuses mainly on paintings and sculptures, but there are many other important types of objects as well. Some of the famous artists whose work is on display in the museum include Goya, Rubens and Titian. Also, there are many temporary exhibitions that change throughout the year

3. Museo de Historia de Madrid

If you want to learn about the history of the city Madrid, go to the Museo de Historia de Madrid! This is a history museum that is really interesting to visit. Objects you can see here are spread over three parts in the museum. The first once focuses on the 16th till the 18th century of Madrid. The second part is all about the 18th century till the War of Independence. Finally, there is a section of the museum dedicated to 19th century till the First World War.

4. National Archaeological Museum

The National Archaeolgical Museum is a beautiful museum in Madrid where you can find a great collection of archaeological objects. Also, it is a very old museum that started in 1867. Pieces you can find at the museum include all kinds of objects from the Iberian Peninsula from all periods in time. Also, there are many objects from Ancient Greece, and some objets from Ancient Egypt.

5. Museo Nacional de Artes Decorativas

For a museum focused on decorative arts, go to the Museo de Artes Decorativas! This is one of the oldest museums of Madrid and there is an amazing collection of objects. For example, you'll find here furniture, textiles, and ceramics from al kinds of time periods. However, the museum focuses on the 16th and 17th century. What's more, the museum is housed in a beautiful palace, which really adds to your experience here.

6. Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía

Another one of the best museums in Madrid is the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía. This is a museum where you can see all kinds of art from the 20th century. In fact, the museum is one of the largest modern and contemporary art museums in the world. Furthermore, the museum focuses on Spanish art and features many famous works. For example, the works of Pablo Picasso and Salvador Dalí are on display here. Besides the beautiful permanent collection, there are many temorary exhibitions.

7. Museum of the Americas

The Museum of the Americas is a very interesting museum in Madrid. The museum focuses on ethnographic, arhaeologic and artistic objects from the Americas. Furthermore, the collection comprises all time periods. At this museum you can learn a lot about the Americas and you can see lots of interesting items!

8. Museum Sorolla

The Museum Sorolla focuses on the artworks by the painter Joaquin Sorolla and his family. His speciality was painting portraits, social and historical themes, and landscapes. Inside the museum you can see many of his paintings, which is awesome! Furthermoore, the building of the museum used to be the artist's house and you can still see the inside, including the furniture and decorations.

9. Museo Nacional Thyssen-Bornemisza

When you are in the city, don't forget to visit the Museo Nacional Thyssen-Bornemisza. This museum is one of the best museums in Madrid and you'll find beautiful artworks. Moreover, the collection consists of many paintings from periods and styles that are not on display at the Museo Nacional del Prado or the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía. For example, there are many paintings of the impressionism and espressionism styles. Also, there are plenty of English, Dutch, and German paintings.

10. Museo Naval

The Museo Naval (or Naval Museum) is a museum in Madrid dedicated to naval history and everything that is related to it. The collection of teh museum consists of many instruments, maps, paintings, weapons, and much more. One of the best artifacts in the museum is the map of Juan de la Cosa, which is the earlest map of the Americas that was preserved.
