1. Visit the Independence Hall

Independence Hall is a place with an important history because both the constitution and the declaration of independence were debated and adopted there.

Furthermore, you can tour the building for free!

During a tour of the building, which is open every day of the year, you will learn more about the place's past.

However, be sure to reserve your free ticket in advance. For more information, look at the website of the independence hall!

I'd highly recommend doing this because it is one of the best free things to do in Philadelphia!

2. Go to a free museum

At the Philadelphia Museum of Art, you find many different types of historical objects, such as paintings, sculptures, armor, and much more. This is very interesting.

Furthermore, there are many works here that were made by many famous artists, such as Van Gogh, Monet, and Renoir.

Also, it is one of the best museums in Philadelphia.

Every first Sunday of the month there is free admission to the museum from 10 AM to 5 PM. Every Wednesday from 5 PM to 8:45 PM you can go here for free too!

3. See history reenactments

There are several places in Philadelphia where you can see reenactments from history.

For example, at the Betsy Ross House, you can see how Betsy Ross raises the 13-star flag.

4. See free art galleries

Every first Friday of the month you can visit many art galleries for free in the Old City District.

This happens year-round and has been happening since 1991.

It is really a very cool way to discover the city's local art! Therefore, it's really one of the most fun free things to do in Philadelphia!

5. Relax in a hammock

Go to Spruce Street Harbour Park for an awesome way to relax.

At the park, you will find more than 50 colorful hammocks that you can relax in for free.

Also, it is the perfect place to go to if you want to escape the bustling city for a bit!

6. See contemporary art for free

At the Institute of Contemporary Art, you can see beautiful contemporary works of art completely for free!

There is always something new to discover, as the exhibitions are always changing.

Also, past exhibitions have showcased art by, among many others, Andy Warhol, Tony Conrad, and Laurie Anderson. So for those who love art, this is amazing.

7. Visit the Rocky Steps

Next to the Philadelphia Museum of Art, you will find the Rocky Statue and the Rocky Steps, famous for the movies with the same name.

It is one of the most popular places to visit in Philadelphia and therefore one of the best free things to do in Philadelphia!

8. Attend a free yoga class

At the Race Street Pier, you can enjoy a good yoga class for free.

Classes run every day of the week and are a great way for you to relax.

Whether you are a beginner or more proficient, it's a fun thing to do!

9. Listen to free stories

Listen to interesting stories of the past at one of the 13 "Once Upon a Nation Storytelling Benches".

At each of the benches, you will find a professional storyteller that tells 3 to 5 minutes stories about the city.

10. See the President’s House

The President's House is the house where both George Washington and John Adams lived during their presidencies.

Here you can learn more about the history of the house and learn about both slavery and freedom at the same time. Therefore, it is very educational.

11. See where money is made

See where money is made at the U.S. Mint in Philadelphia. You can do a tour of the facility completely for free!

During this tour, you will see how coins are created in real-time, see how the first coins of the United States were made, and learn and see much more! For more information regarding the tours, head over to this page!

12. See free concerts

For a great variety of free musical performances go to the Kimmel Center for the performing arts.

There are many events here that you can enjoy for free throughout the year. For an overview of the free events, check out this link!

Moreover, the Kimmel Center is not the only place where you can go for a free concert, because you can also go to the Curtis Institute of Music.

There, you can listen to the Student Recital Series for free.

Students perform on most Mondays from 6 PM and most Wednesdays and Fridays from 8 PM.

Also, most concerts are about two hours long. However, make sure to appear on time, as seats are given on a first-come, first-served basis.
