1. Go to the park

Charleston has many free parks and going to one of really one of the most relaxing free things to do in Charleston.

For example, you can go to the Riverfront Park, the Waterfront Park, and Hampton Park.

All options are great for relaxation, working out, and other things.

Furthermore, going to Waterfront Park is one of the most romantic things you can do in Charleston.

2. Participate in a free art walk

During the Charleston Gallery Association Art Walks a lot of galleries in Charleston are open to the public.

This is amazing because it allows you to see local art completely for free.

Furthermore, many kinds of art can be seen here, so I would really recommend going there!

Moreover, during the walk you can also enjoy complimentary refreshments at each location, making the art walk even better! Therefore, it's definitely one of the most fun free things to do in Charleston!

3. See a free contemporary art exhibition

At The Halsey Institute of Contemporary Art, you will not find a permanent collection of artworks. However, you will find here many great temporary exhibitions showcasing work by emerging or other not-yet-famous artists!

And you can have a look at the exhibitions for free!

Also, there are many film screenings, talks, and lectures that can regularly be attended for free!

4. Visit a tree that is 400-500 years old

A special thing to do is going to the Angel Oak. The Oak is about 400-500 years old and really large!

The Angel Oak is a very beautiful tree to see, so it's a nice activity on the list of free things to do in Charleston.

5. Learn about natural history

Do you want to learn about natural history? Then go to the Mace Brown Museum of Natural History at the College of Charleston. This is a very interesting activity.

On display here are many fossils that include dinosaur bones, cave bears, ocean life, and many other lifeforms. Moreover, entry is completely free! For more information, you can check out the museum's website.

6. Discover the West Ashley Greenway

The West Ashley Greenway is a former rail track that has been transformed for recreation.

It is a great track for walking, skating, running, or cycling and I am sure you will enjoy it.

The distance of the track is almost 15 kilometers!

7. Head to the beach

If you want to see a beach, then go to Folly Beach!

You will find here a great beach near Charleston for relaxing. Also, it is completely free.

8. Tour a tea plantation

The Charleston Tea Plantation is the only tea plantation in the United States and you can do the Factor Tour for free.

During this tour you will learn more about how tea is made, so that's a very interesting activity.

Furthermore, you get to experience a bit of the history of the tea plantation. Tours happen every hour of the day.

9. Snap a picture of colorful houses

At Rainbow Row, you can snap a beautiful picture because on this street you will find thirteen houses that are all painted in a different color!

This makes this one of the most photogenic places in Charleston.

It is a great place to improve your Instagram feed and one of the most fun free things to do in Charleston!
