2. The National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo

For more modern art you should go to the National Museum of Modern Art!

It is the most important modern art museum in Japan and also one of the largest museums for art in Japan in general.

The museum mainly houses artworks made by Japanese artists. There are also works by Western countries.

3. Tokyo Photographic Art Museum

The Tokyo Photographic Art Museum is focused on photography.

Here you can visit exhibitions that are theme-based with photos from many different photographers, such as Shihachi Fujimoto, Bruce Gilden, and Kansuke Yamamoto.

Furthermore, you can also attend workshops and other participatory programs.

4. Edo-Tokyo Museum

At the Edo-Tokyo Museum, you can learn about the history and culture of Tokyo (Edo is the former name of Tokyo).

The permanent exhibition showcases all sorts of original and replica objects, and the temporary exhibitions change five to six times per year to cover a certain theme.

Together these exhibits provide visitors with information to learn about the last 400 years of Tokyo.

5. Nezu Museum

The Nezu Museum houses an art collection of Nezu Kaichirō, an influential person in Japan.

Here you can find all kinds of Japanese and East Asian art, with a total of almost 7500 artworks.

The objects on display here include paintings, calligraphy, textiles, sculptures, and much more. These objects are very interesting to see.

6. Advertising Museum Tokyo

To learn more about the art of advertising, you should go to the Advertising Museum Tokyo.

You can go here to see all kinds of advertisements and what lead to their creation.

Through the exhibitions, you will learn more about the history of advertising in Japan. Bonus, it is one of the best free things to do in Japan, so there's no admission fee.
