The Montreal Museum of Fine Arts is the largest art museum in Canada and one of the best museums in Montreal.

Here you'll find all kinds of artworks divided over 6 sections, including Quebec and Canadian Art, International Contemporary Art, and a section focused on the interaction between artworks from ancient cultures and the works of more contemporary artists.

Furthermore, there are several temporary exhibitions.

Because of the variety of this museum, it is definitely worth visiting while you are in Montreal.

What's great is that you can visit the museum for free every first Sunday! Therefore it is one of the best free things to do in Montreal as well!

2. McCord Museum

At the McCord Museum, you can learn about the story of the city of Montreal.

Here you'll discover the city, its history, culture, and people, from its founding up till the present.

The collection consists of archaeological objects, costumes and textiles, photography, paintings, decorative arts, and many more artifacts.

3. Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal

When you want to see more contemporary art you should head to the Montreal Museum of Contemporary Art (Musée d'art contemporain de Montréal).

It was Canada's first museum to focus on contemporary art. You can find art here from both Canadian and international artists. Furthermore, there are some temporary exhibitions focused on a certain theme.

Going here is one of the best activities in Montreal for sure.

4. Pointe-à-Callière Museum

The Pointe-à-Callière Museum is an archaeology and history museum.

In the museum, you can find all kinds of archaeological objects from the city.

Together these objects let you explore all parts of the history of Montreal.

Besides the permanent collection that completely focuses on Montreal, there are some temporary exhibitions that have changed over the years that focus on more international archeology and history subjects, such as Ancient Greece and the Etruscans.

5. Redpath Museum

At the Redpath Museum, a museum of McGill University, you find all kinds of natural history objects. This museum is very interesting if you want to learn something.

You can find dinosaur skeletons here, as well as fossils, mammals, minerals, many plants, and a great collection of objects coming from cultures all around the world.
