Amsterdam is famous for its lovely canals, magnificent houses and tulips. There are a lot of good Instagram photo spots in Amsterdam. Thus, is the perfect place to take wonderful photos. Since I'm actually based in Amsterdam, I know the best places to take your photo!
The first spot is Damrak. This spot is perfect for a photo in Amsterdam. First of all, because the houses and canals you see in this photo are typical for Amsterdam. Everyone will immediately recognize it's Amsterdam by seeing this spot! Furthermore, since the crowd won't bother you, you can make a photo here all day. It can get busy on the road, but nobody will stand in the background, so that's great!
Also, it's only a 5-minute walk from Amsterdam Central Station, so the location is great! After taking some this photos here you could go to the Kalverstraat. The Kalverstraat is a very popular shopping area in Amsterdam and it is very close to this photo spot. Furthermore, there are also some lovely places for lunch close to this place.
It would be a great idea to wear something red in this photo! Then your clothes will match with the red house in the background, which is very pretty. But, other colours look great here as well.
Another thing I love a lot about this post, is that you can take many kinds of photos here. You can either sit or stand and you can also take a photo from farther away and from a bit closer. Since the houses are so photogenic, every photo turns out amazing!
This photo spot looks best early in the morning because the lighting then is wonderful. Besides the best time to take photos, early mornings in Amsterdam are lovely in general! There's something magical about walking in the empty streets that get so busy during the day. So, I'd recommend experiencing sunrise in Amsterdam at least once during your stay!
Another one of the best Instagram photo spots is Melkmeisjesbrug. I love this spot a lot because it actually shows how the streets in the centre of Amsterdam look. There are many bridges in the city centre and almost everywhere you go, you see canals. At this spot, you see one of these bridges crossing a canal. The bridge is very cute and the houses in the background look so beautiful! These houses also look like typical houses in Amsterdam, which is amazing! Furthermore, this place is great to take a photo that actually tells a story. I love how it looks as if you're just wandering through Amsterdam.
Again, you can take so many kinds of photos at Melkmeisjesbrug! Try to look for several angles, because every angle looks a bit different.
If you want to take a photo without other people, then you should try to come a bit earlier on the day. Especially during summer it can get quite busy here!
3. Next to Beurs van Berlage
This spot is very close to the first spot, so you can easily combine these two photo spots with each other. This is one of the best Instagram photo spots in Amsterdam as well. The famous houses of Amsterdam look amazing here in combination with the water. Both for taking photos and for relaxing a bit, this is one of the most romantic places int the city!
Sometimes you can also take a photo with the canal cruises as you see on this photo! I love that, because it adds value to your photo. These canal cruises are very typical for Amsterdam. You can actually travel through the whole centre via the canals. It's also nice to do a canal tour, because it is one of the best things to do in Amsterdam.
If you have been to the Netherlands several times, you might already know that it can rain a lot in this country. Even though this can be very disappointing if you were planning on taking some photos, it's not that bad! You can take some umbrellas with you in different colours. I can promise you, it will look amazing on your photos! Since rain is actually very typical for Amsterdam, it can even add value to your photo. I love that a rainy photo with a colourful umbrella can actually be very romantic! Furthermore, it can tell even more of a story than a normal shot. Once I made some photos with a few friends of mine in Amsterdam and it was a very rainy day. We had a pink umbrella and the photos turned out to be lovely!
Chocolate behind this spot
Also fun to know is that behind this spot there's the entrance of the Tony's Chocolonely Super Store! This isn't quite a normal chocolate shop, but it's a shop where you can try chocolate for free! Tony's Chocolonely has many kinds of tastes and you can try all. Furthermore, you can design your own chocolate bar here as well. If you love chocolate, I'd recommend going there after taking some photos at this spot!
4. Crossing between Korte Niezel and Oudezijds Voorburgwal
This is another great photo spot and it's actually one of the best Instagram spots in Amsterdam! I love that you can see one of the canals from a different angle here. The houses look very cute in combination with the beautiful trees. Also, you can see some flowers on the rails! These flowers on the rails make the Instagram spot even more photogenic.
Speaking of flowers, you will often find bridges with flowers in Amsterdam. Especially in summer, you 'll keep stumbling upon picturesque bridges with pretty flowers.
Great to know is that all these spots are actually pretty close to each other. The city centre isn't very large, so everyhting is walkeable.
5. Crossing of Damrak and Prins Hendrikkade
This photo spot is very close to spots one and three and this is one of the most unique places for sure! One of the best things about this spot sis that you're so close to the water. It stands out how unique it is that some houses in Amsterdam are right next to the water.
To reach this spot, you need to step over a little fence. Furthermore, this spot is completely private, so that's very convenient.
6. Flower bikes
Sometimes, you will stumble upon a flower bike in Amsterdam! These bikes aren't always in the city, but when they do, you should definitely take a photo with one of them. These flower bikes are very special and they can be in every colour. The flowers on the bike I took a photo with were white, but you can also spot bikes with pink, purple and yellow flowers!
These bikes can be anywhere in the city. But, the spot is especially amazing if you can also capture a canal or a famous building, such as the Westerkerk. But, even if that isn't the case, a flower bike is always worth taking a picture with!
One of the reasons why taking a photo with such a bike is great is because Amsterdam is famous for its bikes! The locals use their bikes to get around in the city and you will see bikes everywhere you go in Amsterdam. Even though these bikes aren't decorated with lots of flowers, it's still very unique.
It's also a great idea to rent a bike when you're in the city! It's a very convenient way to get around and ebsides that, it's also fun to experience the city a bit more like a local.
7. Oudezijds Voorburgwal near Zeedijk
At Oudezijds Voorburgwal, there's also one of the best Instagram spots in Amsterdam. Oudezijds Voorburgwal is a long street, but if you walk towards Zeedijk, you'll see this spot. There is so much water here, which is very photogenic. Furthermore, you can spot houses that are next to the water again. Sometimes there are even boats in front of the houses that belong to the people who live there! It must be amazing to live there and be able to sail away whenever you want to do that!
There is also a lovely terrace right behind where I'm standing on this photo. Here you can have something to eat and to drink and enjoy the beautiful views of Amsterdam. It's a very good idea to sit there and relax for a while!
This place is also in the centre of Amsterdam, so the location is perfect. It's only a short walk from Amsterdam Central Station. The centre of Amsterdam is also a great place to stay. You will find some of the best hotels in Amsterdam there.
As you can see, on many photos I have flowers with me. The combination of flowers and Amsterdam is amazing. Most photo spots here aren't colourful, because that's not what Amsterdam looks like. Thus, photos in Amsterdam can be a bit brown or grey, but the flowers add so much colour to the photos!
8. Van Wonderen Stroopwafels
Speaking of colours, the next spot actually is very colourful! This spot reminds me a bit of London, with all the colourful displays you can find there. The blue and red colours here are stunning. A stroopwafel is a typical Dutch treat. Amsterdam has amazing food and you will also find great restaurants in Amsterdam.
Staalmeestersbrug definitely belongs to the best Instagram photo spots in Amsterdam. The view from here is very romantic. This is also one of my favourite photo spots in winter, as it gets very romantic then. From here, you have a perfect view of the Zuiderkerk and one of the canals.
