Airport
The first way to get to Athens is by plane. This is usually the way you go to the city when you are traveling from a different country than Greece.
The airport of Athens lies about 30 kilometers outside of the city. To get to Athens from the airport you can either go by bus, metro, taxi, or rental car.
Train
Another way to get to Athens is by train. This is a very convenient way to travel if you come from another place on the mainland of Greece. For example, you can take the train from Thessaloniki to Athens.
Boat
The third way to reach the capital of Greece is by boat. It is easy to reach Athens by ferry from many of the Greek islands.
How to get to Santorini and Milos
When you follow this Athens, Santorini, Milos Itinerary, you're going to two islands. The islands of Greece are very easy to reach from Athens and other places in Greece.
To get to Santorini and Milos you have two options. You can either travel by airplane or by ferry.
I recommend traveling by ferry because it is often faster and more convenient. But both ways get you there.
There is a direct flight from Athens to Santorini. But to get from Santorini to Milos, you would have to transfer in Athens. There is no direct flight between the islands.
It's very easy to travel by ferry in Greece.

You will spend your first two days in Athens. Athens is the capital of Greece and it's a wonderful city to visit!
There are many reasons to visit Athens. The city has a very interesting history and there are many sights where you can learn about that. Athens is for a large part famous because of the Acropolis. Many people know the city because of this ancient citadel. Other famous sights are the Temple of Olympian Zeus and the Panathenaic Stadium.
Furthermore, Athens is one of the most beautiful cities in Europe! There are incredible viewpoints in the city, such as the Lycabettus Hill. Moreover, the food in Athens is amazing. In short, it’s a place in Greece you should see for sure! So let's start the Athens, Santorini, Milos itinerary in Athens!
Breakfast yogurt
A great way to start your day in Athens is with some typical Greek breakfast. That's why I recommend having some Greek yogurt for breakfast!
There are many places in the city where you can get breakfast. You can choose different toppings to add, such as fruit and granola. This is a very delicious way to start your day!
Explore the Acropolis
After breakfast, it's time to explore the Acropolis!
Exploring the Acropolis is one of the best things to do in Athens. The Acropolis is the most famous sight in the city. It's an old citadel with many ancient buildings. The most famous building is the Parthenon. You can see this building from many places in the city. This is a beautiful ancient temple dedicated to Athena. Athena is a Greek goddess.
The goddess Athena is also the reason for the name of the city according to mythology. There's a myth that Athens is the name of the city because of a contest between Poseidon and Athena. Athena was the winner of the contest.
At the Acropolis, you can learn a lot about mythology and the history of Athens.
Furthermore, the Acropolis is in the center of Athens, so it's very easy to get there. You have to climb to get to the top, but it's definitely worth it! Not only the ancient buildings are amazing to see, but the view from the Acropolis is incredible as well.
Go to the Aeropagus
The Aeropagus is a hill that you can find next to the Acropolis. After visiting the Acropolis it's time to go there! To get to the top of the hill, you can climb the stairs. It's an easy and short climb.
From the Aeropagus, you have a wonderful view of Athens! What I love most about the Aeropagus is that you have a very good view of the Acropolis too.
Lunch at Plaka
After exploring the Acropolis and going to the Aeropagus, it's time for lunch! The food in Athens is very good, so you'll definitely have an amazing lunch.
Plaka is a lovely area in Athens. Here, you find many shops where you can get Greek items, clothes and more. Besides that, there are lots of lovely restaurants at Plaka!
What I love most about this area is that there are stairs with restaurants on different levels. It looks so cute.
Furthermore, you can have the most delicious dishes from Greek cuisine here! For example, you can have a Greek salad or giant beans.
So head to Plaka and choose one of the amazing restaurants for lunch!
See the Ancient Agora
The Ancient Agora of Athens is another great place to visit when you are in Athens. It is another great place to learn about the history of Athens. This is one of my favorite activities on this Athens, Santorini, Milos itinerary!
The Agora was a public space during ancient times with lots of important buildings.
For example, you can find here the Temple of Hephaestus, which is a well-preserved temple that is great to see!
Besides that, there were more temples at the Ancient Agora, but most of them are gone and now there are only ruins.
Other things to see at the Ancient Agora include a library, a statue, a basilica, and an altar. But most of these things aren't complete anymore.
What's great is that you can walk at and see the places that were very important for the city about 2600 years ago.
Monastiraki + rooftop relaxation
After seeing the ancient Agora, it’s time to go to Monastiraki. Monastiraki is a very nice square in the center of Athens. Lovely shops surround Monastiraki. Furthermore, you have a very nice view of the Acropolis from Monastiraki.
Moreover, there is an amazing rooftop bar at Monastiraki! A for Athens is a rooftop cocktail bar and restaurant where you have a very nice view of the city. It's time to go there! Order some drinks and enjoy the magnificent view of the city. This is the perfect place to have a relaxing afternoon.
Dinner at stairs in Plaka
It’s time for dinner! For dinner, you can go to Plaka again. In the evening, Plaka looks very pretty. Choose one of the amazing restaurants and order some delicious Greek food!
When you finish dinner, you can walk around Plaka. If you want to, you can visit some lovely shops there.
After that, the first day of this Athens, Santorini, Milos itinerary is over. Head back to your hotel and get some sleep, because tomorrow is going to be an amazing day as well!
Day 2 (Athens)
It's time for the second day of this Athens, Santorini, Milos itinerary. This is your last day in Athens. You're going to do some amazing things today. But first, breakfast!
Breakfast
For breakfast, I recommend starting at Monastiraki. There are plenty of places for breakfast here. Also, there is a great smoothie bar with the most delicious smoothies in Athens. Its name is Xymopoieio and you find it in one of the small streets leading to Monastiraki.
Temple of the Olympian Zeus
You're going to start the day at the Temple of Olympian Zeus. Greek mythology says that Zeus was the king of the gods.
This is one of the most impressive temples to see in Athens. That's because the construction started in 600 BC. It took hundreds of years to get it ready. It was ready in the second century AD.
Back then, there were more than a hundred columns making it the largest Greek temple. So that's incredible! Nowadays, there are only sixteen columns. That's because Barbarians destroyed a large part of it.
Seeing the temple is very interesting. Especially when you realize how old it is!
Panathenaic Stadium
If you follow this Athens, Santorini, Milos itinerary, you'll now see a stadium. The Panathenaic Stadium is a special stadium to see as the first modern Olympics took place here! You can find the stadium in the center of the city.
The Olympics took place at the stadium in the 19th century. But the Panathenaic Stadium is thousands of years old!
Lunch falafel
Now it's time for lunch! There are many great lunch spots.
One place that I like in particular is Mikro Politiko, near the Temple of the Olympian Zeus. Here you can get the most delicious falafel!
Visit the National Garden
After lunch, you should definitely go to the National Garden. This is a beautiful garden that lies behind the building of the Greek Parliament.
It is a great park for a relaxing stroll. There are trees and other nature that look beautiful and there are ancient ruins, which is great
Furthermore, there is no admission fee for the gardens and you can go there from sunrise to sunset.
Shopping at Ermou + Syntagma Square
After walking here, I recommend going to Syntagma Square. You find here the Greek Parliament building. This is very interesting to see. Also, there are guards here that guard the building.
From Syntagma Square you can go to the main shopping street in Athens: Ermou. Ermou is a great place to shop, as there are lots of shops.
There are small Greek shops here, but there are also well-known retail stores in this street, such as H&M.
Dinner at Monastiraki
Now, it's time for dinner! Ermou leads to Monastiraki, which is a great place for dinner. You have plenty of options for delicious food here.
Each restaurant serves delicious Greek food, so you will have a great time, wherever you sit down!
Day 3 (Santorini)
It's the third day of the Athens, Santorini, Milos itinerary! Today you're going to travel to Santorini. You'll get there by ferry or airplane.
If you're traveling by ferry, then head to Port of Piraeus. Traveling by ferry in Greece is amazing! The journey will be very fun, so enjoy!
If you're getting to Santorini by airplane, then you should get to the airport in Athens.
Fira
When you arrive in Santorini I recommend going to the town of Fira. This is the capital of the island and you can find many great things to do and see here.
One of the things you immediately notice when you arrive in the town is the beautiful view. Fira lies on top of a hill, so you can see the sea from above.
Furthermore, the houses in Fira are lovely to see and very picturesque. This makes Fira a great place to wander through and relax.
Lunch
There are many options for lunch with delicious food. For example, you can have very tasty pitas here.
Relaxing in Fira
I recommend relaxing a lot when you are in Fira and spend the rest of your day exploring the town. Also, you should definitely sit down at one of the restaurants and have a drink with a view.
Dinner
For dinner, there are many options too. Choose whatever you like most, and have dinner with a view!
Because Fira is a busy place with many shops and restaurants, I recommend staying in a hotel here. This is very convenient. Also, from Fira, it's easy to go to other parts of the island.
Day 4 (Santorini)
On the second day in Santorini, which is the fourth day of this itinerary, you can go to Oia!
Explore Oia
Oia is another town on Santorini that is incredible. It might be the most beautiful place on the island.
From Fira, it is easy to reach Oia. You can do so either by bus or by walking there. The hiking trail from Fira to Oia is very popular.
When you arrive here, you'll immediately see the beautiful view of the town. Also, you will recognize the blue domes you can see in every picture of Santorini.
Lunch in Oia
There are many places in Oia where you can have lunch. Each one has a beautiful view.
See the windmills and Oia Castle
When you walk through the town you can see beautiful buildings. Also, you can have a look at the famous windmills in Oia. These look incredible.
After that, you can get to Oia Castle. Oia Castle is a beautiful place where you can get an amazing view of the town. Furthermore, you can learn about the history of Oia at Oia Castle. In the past, people used it to protect the town against pirates.
Dinner
Next to Oia Castle, you have many places where you can have dinner. This is a great spot in Oia from where you have a beautiful view.
Also, after dinner or during dinner (depending on what time it is), you can watch the sunset in Oia. This looks beautiful and many people travel to Oia to see the sunset.
Day 5 (Santorini)
On day 5 of this itinerary, I recommend going back to Oia again. Oia is so beautiful that spending only one day there isn't enough.

Furthermore, you should definitely go to Amoudi Bay. This is a place that lies below Oia and you can reach it when you walk down some stairs.
The place looks completely different and it is very beautiful too. You also find here many restaurants that are great for lunch.
Take the ferry to Milos
During the afternoon it's time to go back to Fira and from there go to the next stop on this itinerary: Milos. If you arrive there in the evening, you wake up in Milos the next day!
Day 6 (Milos)
On the 6th day of this itinerary, you'll explore some great places on Milos. So let's take the ferry to Milos!
Go to Adamantas
Adamantas is the main port of the island and the place where you arrive when you come here by ferry from Santorini. Furthermore, Adamantas is a wonderful village.
A highlight of the town is the church of the Holy Trinity, which is more than 600 years old.
Furthermore, there are some lovely restaurants and shops here. And this is the best place to stay in a hotel on the island because it's most convenient.
Grab something for lunch in Adamantas and then go to Plaka!
Stroll through Plaka
Plaka is the capital of the island and definitely the most beautiful village on Milos. You find here all kinds of picturesque white Greek houses.
Strolling around here is a great and very relaxing activity. What's great is that cars aren't allowed in the village, which makes walking around here better.
Visit Klima
From Plaka, you can walk to the fishing village of Klima. This is a very colorful place with lots of tiny houses. This is lovely to see and this place is great for swimming.
Dinner in Adamantas
For dinner, I'd recommend going back to Adamantas. There are many amazing restaurants in that village!
Day 7 (Milos): The Last Day of the Athens, Santorini, Milos Itinerary
It's the last day of the Athens, Santorini, Milos itinerary! Today is also going to be a lot of fun.
Sarakiniko Beach
You're going to start the day at Sarakiniko Beach. This is the most famous beach in Milos.
The beach is very special as there's white volcanic rock in many shapes. The wind and waves of the water gave the rock its shape. If you’re in Milos, you have to see this beach. It’s one of the most popular places for photography on the island too. Moreover, relaxing here for a while is amazing!
Explore Pollonia
After the beach, it's time to visit Pollonia. Pollonia is another lovely village on Milos. There are shops, cute cafes and there's another beach.
Walking around Pollonia is one of the most fun things to do on Milos.
Dinner in Pollonia
In Pollonia, there are some lovely restaurants next to the water. Having dinner at one of the restaurants is lovely!
