7 Free Things To Do in Paris, France

By Dymphe / January 5, 2023

In this article, you'll find 7 free things to do in Paris! All those things are really fun, so I'd highly recommend doing them.

The capital of France is a place with many activities and a lot of them are free.

Table of Contents

  • 1. Go to a local art market
  • 2. Visit the Paris covered passages
  • 3. Do a photoshoot in Paris
  • 4. The green walkway
  • 5. Petit Palais
  • 6. Go inside the Sacre-Coeur
  • 7. Take a free walking tour

1. Go to a local art market

In Montmartre, only a few streets from the Sacre-Coeur, you can find a small square here where several artists are displaying their paintings. It is called "Place du Tertre". if you love art, going here is amazing.

From the end of the 18th century, a lot of famous painters, poets, and songwriters could be seen here.

2. Visit the Paris covered passages

Paris is home to several covered passages where boutique shops can be found, as well as some local restaurants.

Some of the most beautiful ones are Passage des Panoramas, Galerie Vivienne, and Passage Jouffroy!

The one in the photo below is Passage des Panoramas.

3. Do a photoshoot in Paris

Since Paris is one of the most photogenic places in the world, it is the perfect place to do a photoshoot.

If you're doing it with your friends or with a tripod, it's also completely free!

4. The green walkway

The Coulée verte René-Dumont is a public park that was built along a former railway on a viaduct, making the whole park an elevated line that you can walk along.

It has a length of 4.7 km / 2.9 mi.

Fun fact: The High Line park in New York City was inspired by this park in Paris. You can visit this for free!

5. Petit Palais

You can also visit Petit Palais when you're in Paris. This is a free museum of fine art and the building looks beautiful!

I would highly recommend going to this museum during your city trip to Paris because the art is just so beautiful and museums are always a great way to spend your time in a city!

6. Go inside the Sacre-Coeur

Montmartre is just amazing. The most famous building certainly is Sacre-Coeur.

You can enter it for free (you may have to wait a bit, as a lot of people want to get in).

7. Take a free walking tour

There are so many great neighborhoods in Paris, and a lot of them come with a free walking tour where tipping is recommended.

For example, you can go to Montmartre and discover the specific history and culture there, or you can see le Marais. On this page, you can find several options.
